For most schools, it's an opportunity to celebrate the diversity that exists within your community. It also offers a great opportunity to deepen social awareness and understanding by celebrating the world's cultural richness beyond your immediate community. At KIS, the students held a competitive cultural day with activities like exhibitions, set piece song of the East African Anthem, Creative Traditional Dance and Dramatized song. The various cultures are categorized into 5 groups Endere (Central Uganda and Eastern Uganda), Ingoma (Western Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda), Sufara (Northern Uganda, South Sudan and Sudan), Nyatiti (Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Cameroon, Tanzania, Congo, Sierra-Leone) and Lute (India, Eritrea, Somalia, Ethiopia, Djibouti Egypt, Canada, Norway, Britain, Bangladesh and Philippines). Our guest of honour Dr Kedress Turyagenda, Director of the Directorate of Educational Standards in the Ministry of Education encouraged the parents to engage and impart cultural values to their children to supplement what the school is already doing.
